Spurs C Oberto to miss two games after irregular heartbeat

Oct 29, 2008 - 6:03 PM SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- San Antonio Spurs center Fabricio Oberto will miss the first two games of the season after experiencing an irregular heartbeat, the team announced Wednesday.

Oberto notified the club's training staff that he felt fluttering in his heart during Tuesday's practice.

An EKG confirmed Oberto was experiencing atrial fibrillation. He underwent a cardioversion Tuesday night which restored his heart to its normal rhythm.

Over the next five days, Oberto will receive daily EKG exams to confirm that his heart maintains its normal rhythm. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Oberto is expected to return on November 4 when the Spurs face the Dallas Mavericks.

Oberto, who will miss games against Phoenix and Portland, averaged 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds while playing in all 82 contests last season.
