Pistons sign Maxiell to four-year extension

Oct 31, 2008 - 7:32 PM AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- The Detroit Pistons locked up forward Jason Maxiell for four more years on Friday, keeping the former first-round pick signed through 2012.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but multiple sources have reported that the deal is worth $20 million.

The 25th overall draft pick in 2005, Maxiell has become a major component in the Pistons' rotation over the last year. The 6-7, 260-pound Maxiell set career highs with 7.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game last season, shooting 54 percent from the floor in 82 games.

The signing of the 25-year-old Maxiell gives the Pistons some much-needed youth for the next few seasons.

Both starting center Rasheed Wallace and top frontcourt reserve Antonio McDyess are 34 years old.
