Celtics F Garnett suspended one game

Nov 17, 2008 - 11:27 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) - The NBA on Monday suspended Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett one game without pay for striking Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut in the face in Saturday night's game.

Garnett will miss Tuesday night's home game against the New York Knicks.

Bogut also was punished, with his initial foul upgraded to a flagrant foul penalty one by Stu Jackson, the league's executive vice president of basketball operations.

The incident between the two big men occurred with 3:58 remaining in the fourth period of the Celtics 102-97 win over the Bucks on Saturday.

Bogut appeared to accidentally Garnett in the face as his arms flailed after getting fouled hard.

Garnett retaliated by swiping Bogut in the face, but Bogut, who already had picked up an earlier technical foul, was slapped with a second one and ejected from the contest.

In his second season with the reigning NBA champions, Garnett is averaging 16.3 points and 9.8 rebounds. Boston leads the Atlantic Division with a 9-2 record.

Bogut is averaging 11.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks for the Bucks (5-6).
