Howard, Bryant top vote-getters for All-Star game

Dec 25, 2008 - 7:00 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard and Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant lead the Eastern Conference and Western Conferences, respectively, in the latest All-Star voting results, released on Thursday.

The reigning slam dunk champion, Howard leads the entire league with 1,421,882 votes, while Bryant's 1,280,912 votes are tops in the West.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James (1,259,764), who won MVP honors at last year's contest, is third overall.

Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade, the NBA's leading scorer at 29.0 points per game, is top among Eastern Conference guards. Detroit guard Allen Iverson (858,469) is a distant second.

Out West, Houston center Yao Ming (1,114,709) is second to Bryant, followed by teammate Tracy McGrady (1,114,709), San Antonio forward Tim Duncan and Phoenix Suns forward Amare Stoudemire (626,796).

The All-Star game will be played on February 15 in Phoenix. Voting will continue through January 11 for paper balloting and January 19 for online and wireless balloting.
