Former NBA player Walker arrested

Jan 6, 2009 - 12:48 AM MIAMI (Ticker) -- Former NBA player Antoine Walker was arrested and charged with suspicion of drunk driving early Monday morning, according to the Miami Herald.

Walker's black Mercedes was pulled over at roughly 5 a.m. after a police officer noticed he was driving with his headlights off, according to the Herald.

The arresting officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car and a sleepy look on Walker's face, the newspaper reported. Walker reportedly refused a Breathalyzer test.

A three-time All-Star, Walker helped the Heat win an NBA championship in 2006. The 6-9, 245-pound Walker was traded to Minnesota in 2007 and averaged 8.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 46 games before having his contract bought out in December.

Walker made news of a different kind in July 2007 when he was robbed at gunpoint in his suburban-Chicago residence.

Drafted sixth overall in 1996 by Boston, the 32-year-old Walker has career averages of 17.5 points and 7.7 rebounds in 893 games in parts of 12 seasons with five different teams.
