Bucks G Redd out for season

Jan 25, 2009 - 8:20 PM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Bucks were dealt a devastating blow Sunday when they learned star guard Michael Redd will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee.

An MRI revealed the injuries. Surgery will be performed at an unspecified date.

Redd, 29, suffered the injury in the third quarter of Saturday's win over Sacramento. The Bucks originally called the injury a "left knee strain."

The absence of Redd is a tough loss for the Bucks (22-25), who currently hold the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Redd, who also missed 14 games with an ankle sprain earlier this season, had been playing well recently. The lefthander scored 44 points against Sacramento on January 16 and then poured in 27 against Dallas five days later.

"I'm deeply disappointed but everything in life happens for a reason and this is God's plan for me," said Redd, who is averaging a team-best 21.2 points. "I have faith in my teammates and coaches to continue to work together to make our fans proud.

"I will be supporting them wholeheartedly from the sidelines and working equally hard to return to the court in the best condition possible for next season."

Unfortunately, Redd's season came to an abrupt end against the Kings.

"A special thank you to all our fans for their great support this season - my ninth as a Milwaukee Buck," Redd said. "Our team still has work to do and I know with our collective support, we can cheer them on to a special season."

A second-round pick by Milwaukee in 2000, Redd has career averages of 20.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 550 games.
