Pistons trade G Acker to Clippers

Feb 16, 2009 - 7:34 PM AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- In a cap-related move, the Detroit Pistons on Monday traded seldom-used guard Alex Acker to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The teams also exchanged second-round picks in future drafts, with the Pistons getting a selection in the 2013 draft and the Clippers a choice in the 2011 draft.

Acker, who averaged 1.7 points in just seven games for the Pistons, is set to make just over $700,000 this season.

By trading his salary, the Pistons will avoid the luxury tax that kicks in when a team's payroll exceeds $71 million.

The trade also gives the Pistons more cap space this summer when the contracts of Allen Iverson and Rasheed Wallace, valued at $35 million, come off the books.
