Lopez, Westbrook named Rookies of the Month
Mar 2, 2009 - 7:45 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- New Jersey Nets center Brook Lopez earned his second straight Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month award on Monday.Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook earned the honors in the Western Conference.
Lopez ranked first among Eastern Conference rookies in points (15.9), rebounds (8.5), field goal percentage (.610) and blocks (1.7).
The 10th overall pick of June's draft, Lopez also won the award for January. He is averaging 12.5 points and 8.1 rebounds in 59 games.
Westbrook, the fourth overall pick, led all rookies in scoring (20.6 ppg) and was second in assists (5.9). Westbrook is averaging 15.8 points and 4.7 assists in 59 contests.
Other nominees were Chicago's Derrick Rose, Los Angeles Clippers guard Eric Gordon, Memphis' O.J. Mayo and Miami's Michael Beasley.
