AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Detroit Pistons guard Allen Iverson will miss the remainder of the season due to a sore back, the team announced Friday.
Iverson already was sidelined 16 games earlier this season from February 27-March 28. Since returning to the Pistons, the 10-time All-Star has averaged just 7.7 points and 2.7 assists.
"After talking with Allen and our medical staff, we feel that resting Allen for the remainder of the season is the best course of action at this time," Pistons president Joe Dumars said. "While he has played in our last three games, he is still feeling some discomfort, and getting him physically ready to compete at the level he is accustomed to playing this late in the season does not seem possible at this point."
Iverson, 33, has averaged 17.4 points and 4.9 assists in 54 games this season with the Pistons, who acquired the four-time league scoring champion from the Denver Nuggets on November 3.
