Los Angeles' Millsap takes weekly honors
Apr 9, 2012 - 5:22 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Elijah Millsap, a guard for the Los Angeles D- Fenders, was today named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played April 2-7. The honor is the first of Millsap's career.Millsap (6-6, 215, Alabama-Birmingham) led the D-Fenders to a 3-0 record last week, helping to etch the D-Fenders in the NBA D-League record books, as the team finished the 2011-12 regular season with a 38-12 record, the best in NBA D-League history. During the week, Millsap averaged 22.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists. He shot 42 percent from the field and 56 percent from three- point range. He began the week with a season-high 32 points on April 4 in a 111-98 win over the Reno Bighorns, before finishing with two double-doubles to end the regular season on April 6 and 7.
In 41 games, 33 starts, for the D-Fenders this season, Millsap is averaging 19.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.9 steals and 33.0 minutes. The 2012 NBA D-League All-Star has scored in double-figures 38 times, recorded five double-doubles and two triple-doubles.
Other top performers considered included Austin's Eric Dawson, who averaged 16.0 points and 12.5 rebounds in three games; Canton's Luke Harangody, who averaged 18.3 points and 13.7 rebounds in three games on assignment from the Cleveland Cavaliers; Dakota's Stefhon Hannah, who averaged 18.0 points and 6.0 assists in four games; Erie's Joey Graham, who averaged 22.3 points and 8.0 rebounds in three games; Fort Wayne's Charles Garcia, who averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in three games; Idaho's Paul Carter, who averaged 18.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in two games; Iowa's Mike Efevberha, who averaged 24.3 points and 4.7 rebounds; Maine's Kenny Hayes, who averaged 22.0 points and 5.0 assists in two games; Rio Grande Valley's Courtney Fortson, who averaged 20.0 points and 10.5 assists in two games on assignment from the Houston Rockets; Reno's Josh Selby, who averaged 32.5 points and 8.0 assists in two games on assignment from the Memphis Grizzlies; Sioux Falls' Marqus Blakely, who averaged 21.0 points and 6.3 rebounds in three games; Springfield's JamesOn Curry, who averaged 19.3 points and 6.0 assists in three games; and Texas' Sean Williams, who averaged 19.7 points and 12.0 rebounds in three games.
