SIU guard Hare suspended after weekend arrest
Sep 22, 2009 - 6:07 PM CARBONDALE, Ill.(AP) -- Southern Illinois guard Ryan Hare has been suspended indefinitely after being charged with aggravated battery and criminal trespassing in connection with a weekend disturbance.Salukis coach Chris Lowery announced the suspension Monday, two days after Hare's arrest. Lowery says Hare won't be allowed to participate in team activities.
Police say the incident involved one of Hare's acquaintances, who was treated at a hospital.
Hare started all but five of the Salukis' games last season, averaging nearly eight points and three rebounds per game.
Hare is free on bond but couldn't be reached for comment Tuesday. He doesn't have a listed telephone number, and it's unclear if he has an attorney.
