Duquesne guard Monteiro charged in Conn. theft

Police in Torrington, Conn., say the items stolen at an Aug. 7 party have a total value of $1,400.

Monteiro and two others, including one juvenile, turned themselves into police in Torrington over the weekend and were charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny. They are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 13.

Duquesne officials are investigating the incident.

Monteiro averaged 3.3 points in 30 games last season. He was expected to play a bigger role now that the team's leading scorer, guard Aaron Jackson, has used up his eligibility.

The 19-year-old Monteiro is the career scoring leader with 1,833 points at Crosby High School in Waterbury. He was the Connecticut high school player of the year in 2008.
