G-F Grote to transfer from Duquesne
May 25, 2007 - 9:42 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Scott Grote does not want to stick around to be a part of Duquesne's rebuilding process. The freshman swingman was given his release in order to transfer to another school, Dukes coach Ron Everhart announced Friday.
The 6-6 Grote was one of four players to appear in all 29 games last season - 22 starts - for Duquesne (10-19), averaging 9.9 points and 4.1 rebounds.
"Scott informed me that he decided it would be best for him to continue his college career at a different school, and we honored his request," Everhart said. "I informed Scott that we were only interested in players who wanted to be with us here at Duquesne. I wish him the best."
A native of Ohio, Grote finished fourth on the team in scoring and third in assists (63) and steals (34). His 34 3-pointers ranked as the seventh-most by a freshman in school history.
A 3-24 team in 2005-06, Duquesne captured national attention last September when five members of the basketball team were injured in an on-campus shooting.
