Chris Lowery out as Southern Illinois' head coach
Mar 2, 2012 - 10:15 PM Carbondale, IL (Sports Network) - Southern Illinois University announced Friday that Chris Lowery has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the men's basketball team.The Salukis lost to Indiana State in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament a day earlier to finish the season with an 8-23 record.
Lowery, who played at Southern Illinois in the early 1990s, compiled a 145-116 record during his eight seasons guiding the program.
His teams made three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2007, during his first four years. However, Southern Illinois went 49-75 over the second half of his tenure.
