Wojcik named head coach at CofC
Apr 1, 2012 - 12:21 AM Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - The College of Charleston on Saturday named Doug Wojcik head men's basketball coach.Wojcik comes to the Cougars from Tulsa, where he compiled a program-record 140 wins over seven seasons. He averaged over 20 wins per season with the Golden Hurricane.
"We had strong candidates, and a difficult choice to make," said Charleston president George Benson. "But Doug Wojcik stood out. Doug has had success at every level throughout his career, as a player, an assistant, and a head coach."
Tulsa made two NIT appearances under the 47-year-old's tenure and won the inaugural College Basketball Invitational title in 2008.
"This is an exciting time for my family and me to be the head coach at the College of Charleston," Wojcik said. "It is a dream come true. It is a great job, in a great city with a great basketball history with Coach (John) Kresse and Coach (Bobby) Cremins as well as a great group of student-athletes coming back next season."
Prior to his stint at Tulsa, he was an assistant at Navy, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Michigan State. He reached a Final Four with the Spartans in 2005.
