Report: Harvard players expected to withdraw in cheating scandal

Sep 11, 2012 - 10:58 PM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Harvard University men's basketball co- captains Kyle Casey and Brandyn Curry are expected to withdraw from the school due to their alleged involvement in a mass cheating scandal.

The Boston Herald quoted a source which revealed that Curry was to have taken his leave by Tuesday's Fall registration deadline, while the paper cited an SI.com report that Casey will also withdraw in similar fashion.

If that is the case, then both have the option of returning to the program with one year of eligibility remaining, according to the paper.

The Harvard Crimson added that if Casey had registered for classes and then was forced to take a leave of absence by the school's administrative board following a review of the incident, he was in line to lose that final year of eligibility.

Casey, a senior forward, led the team with 11.4 points and was second with 5.5 rebounds per contest over 31 games a season ago. Curry, a senior guard, posted 7.9 points, 4.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game last year. Both were instrumental in helping Harvard attain its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1946.

Roughly 125 students, athletes and non-athletes alike, have been suspected of cheating that involved a take-home examination in a course relating to the United States government, according to the Herald.

Members of the football team are also affected by the scandal, according to both publications.
