Biedenbach resigns as UNC Asheville head coach
Apr 3, 2013 - 5:03 AM Asheville, NC (Sports Network) - Eddie Biedenbach has stepped down as the head men's basketball coach at UNC Asheville to become an assistant coach at UNC Wilmington.UNC Asheville made the announcement Tuesday, ending Biedenbach's 17-year reign as the program's head coach. During his tenure, UNC Asheville won five Big South Conference regular season titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times.
"I've always said if a coaching opportunity ever presented itself at either N.C. State or UNC Wilmington that my family and I would be interested in pursuing it," said Biedenbach, who leaves as UNC Asheville's all-time wins leader with 266. "It's very difficult to leave UNC Asheville. The 17 years here at UNC Asheville have been rewarding in so many ways which makes it even harder to leave.
"UNC Wilmington is a unique opportunity, and I look forward to working with (head coach) Buzz Peterson and (athletic director) Jimmy Bass to rebuilding their program,"
UNC Asheville went 16-16 this past season with a 10-6 mark in Big South Conference play.
