Michigan's Burke turning pro

Apr 14, 2013 - 5:56 PM Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) - There will be no encore for Trey Burke's brilliant sophomore season, as the recent Naismith and Wooden award recipient announced his intention to enter the upcoming NBA Draft during a Sunday press conference.

"After talking it over with my family and coaching staff and weighing all my options, I have decided to enter the NBA Draft," Burke stated. "I feel that is the right decision for me and my future. It has been a dream of mine to play in the NBA, and I feel excited and well prepared to take that next step in my career."

Burke also claimed the Oscar Robertson Trophy honoring the nation's most outstanding men's basketball player after averaging 18.6 points, 6.7 assists and 1.6 steals and helping Michigan reach the championship game of this year's NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot point guard was also selected as the Big Ten's 2012-13 Player of the Year.

With Burke leading the way, the Wolverines reached the Final Four for the first time since 1993 and tied a school record for wins in a single season (31).

"Trey's desire to be the best at everything he does has helped Michigan basketball achieve things it hadn't done in 20 years," said Wolverines head coach John Beilein. "I am extremely proud of the young man he's become and believe he is prepared to take the next step in his career.
