Penn State's Frazier granted NCAA Medical Hardship Waiver
Apr 25, 2013 - 3:12 PM University Park, PA (Sports Network) - Penn State senior guard Tim Frazier has been granted a Medical Hardship Waiver by the NCAA making him eligible to return to the Nittany Lions' lineup for the 2013-14 season.Frazier was the Big Ten Conference's second leading scorer in 2011-12 with 18.8 ppg before he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in his left leg in PSU's fourth game of the 2012-13 campaign. He was leading the Nittany Lions with 21.7 points and 5.0 assists per contest coming into the Akron game in which he was injured.
"Tim has shown tremendous will, perseverance and leadership as he continues his rehabilitation from a very tough injury," Penn State coach Patrick Chambers said. "He is doing very well. We are thrilled for him that he will have the opportunity to finish his career strong and again place himself among the top players in the nation."
Frazier will enter the 2013-14 season just 142 assists shy of breaking Penn State's all-time career record. In his junior season, the Big Ten All- Defensive team selection was second in the conference with 17 20-point games and averaged 19.6 ppg in conference play, while becoming the first Lion ever to post at least 500 points, 150 assists and 50 steals in a season.
Penn State will return four of its top five scorers and rebounders next season from the 2012-13 team that finished with a 10-21 record, including a late February upset of eventual NCAA finalist Michigan.
