Georgetown's Whittington has torn ACL
Jun 18, 2013 - 10:17 PM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Georgetown announced Tuesday that forward Greg Whittington recently tore the ACL in his left knee, an injury that could potentially sideline him for the entire 2013-14 season.Whittington, a rising junior, ranked second among Georgetown players in rebounding (7.0 rpg) and scoring (12.1 ppg) while starting the first 13 games of this past season. The 6-foot-8 Maryland native did not play after January 8 after being declared academically ineligible.
The defending Big East regular-season champion Hoyas had been counting on Whittington to play a key role with reigning conference Player of the Year Otto Porter having declared for this month's NBA Draft.
"Greg will return when he is 100 percent healthy," said Hoyas head coach John Thompson III. "I feel for Greg because he's worked extremely hard to prepare for the coming season, on and off the court. I'm confident this is just another setback that in the end will make him even stronger. At this point, there is no specific timetable for his return."
