Skerry's contract extended through 2020
May 2, 2014 - 9:51 PM Towson, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Towson University announced on Friday that the contract of head men's basketball coach Pat Skerry has been extended an additional year through the 2019-2020 season.Skerry, who was rewarded with a contract extension last August, followed up by leading his team to a Division I program-record 25 victories, including a 13-3 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association, and two wins in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
"Our men's basketball program has excelled under the leadership of Coach Skerry and we're thrilled to extend his contract through the 2019-20 season," said Towson director of athletics Tim Leonard. "Pat and his staff have done an extraordinary job recruiting and developing the type of student-athletes that work tremendously hard both on the court and in the classroom. Pat and his wife Kristen, along with the entire staff, have truly embraced being part of the Towson family and community. I couldn't be more excited about the future of our men?s basketball program moving forward under his leadership."
Skerry was named to his current role in the spring of 2011, inheriting a program coming off a 4-26 season and facing NCAA sanctions for poor numbers in the Academic Performance Rates.
After a difficult 1-31 campaign, the Skerry-led Tigers made NCAA history in 2012-13 season by posting the largest single-season turnaround. Towson registered its first winning season in 17 years, and its 18 wins were the most for the program since 1993-94.
