Kansas guard White to transfer
May 9, 2014 - 3:16 PM Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Kansas guard Andrew White III has decided to leave the men's basketball program after two years.White had averaged less than six minutes per game for the Jayhawks each of the last two seasons and was unsure what his role would be going forward after speaking with coach Bill Self.
"Coach Self told me it would be questionable to break into the rotation," said White in a statement released by the school. "My family and I decided it would be the best choice to move on and explore other school options. I feel like every day I gave maximum effort and gave everything in my power to the program. I feel I made the best out of my situation."
White averaged 2.2 points in 25 games as a freshman during the 2012-13 season and 2.3 points in 19 games during his sophomore campaign.
"We respect everything about Andrew White," said Self. "He's been a great ambassador for our school. He's a terrific student and terrific young man. He's been nothing but positive and a great teammate for everyone in our program. He will be dearly missed. We wish him nothing but the best and we will do everything we possibly can to assist him with this move."
White is the second Kansas player to leave the program this month. Last week, point guard Naadir Tharpe decided to transfer closer to his Massachusetts home for personal reasons after three years with the Jayhawks.
No one has shouted yet.
