UNC's Tokoto entering NBA Draft

Apr 9, 2015 - 7:59 PM Chapel Hill, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - North Carolina coach Roy Williams said Thursday the school supports junior J.P. Tokoto's decision to forgo his final season of eligibility to enter the NBA Draft.

Tokoto, a 6-foot-6 forward, told Yahoo Sports on Wednesday that he will not initially sign with an agent, meaning he can withdraw from the draft prior to the early entry deadline on April 26 and return to the Tar Heels.

"Going in, I know I'm not a first-round pick," Tokoto told Yahoo Sports. "I know my jumper needs work, and I'm putting in that work now -- and will keep doing it. My jumper is something that has me as a second-round pick right now, but I have a mindset of work to improve the form and range of my shot."

Tokoto, a 2014 All-ACC defender, has averaged 6.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals in three seasons at North Carolina and was generally seen by observers as a player who would be a draft pick next year.

"J.P. and I have had multiple meetings since the end of the season, including one yesterday afternoon," Williams said in a statement. "We support J.P. in his decision and will continue to assist him as he pursues his dream of playing professional basketball. J.P. has made significant contributions to our program. My staff and I wish him great success as he moves forward."
