Ex-Louisville basketball player Jones cleared on rape charge
Apr 29, 2015 - 8:13 PM Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - A grand jury has cleared former Louisville basketball star Chris Jones on rape and sodomy charges, according to the Associated Press. The decision came Wednesday, two months after Jones was arrested on allegations that he and two other men sexually assaulted two women, ages 19 and 20, at a party at an off-campus apartment. All three later pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Jones was initially charged with two counts of rape and two counts of sodomy.
Jones' co-defendants, Jalen Tilford, 21, and Tyvon Walker, 19, also were cleared of the same charges.
Jones was suspended in mid-February by Louisville after it was revealed he texted a threatening message to a separate female. Cardinals coach Rick Pitino booted Jones from the team, officially, for breaking curfew just two days after he was reinstated to the team following the text message incident.
That curfew violation happened the same night, Feb. 22, as the alleged incident surrounding this case.
Jones was averaging 13.7 points and a team-best 3.6 assists per game for the Cardinals before his dismissal.
No one has shouted yet.
