Tennessee's Kasongo must miss opener, pay $300 restitution
Nov 13, 2015 - 11:54 PM KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee forward Ray Kasongo must sit out Friday's season opener against UNC Asheville and pay $300 in restitution before playing his first game with the Volunteers because of an amateurism issue.Athletic department spokesman Tom Satkowiak would not give further details into the problem that preceded the 6-foot-8 sophomore's enrollment at Tennessee. Kasongo signed with the Volunteers in April.
Satkowiak said Kasongo would be able to play for Tennessee starting with Monday's game at Georgia Tech.
Kasongo came to Tennessee from College of Southern Idaho after spending the 2013-14 season at Phase 1 Academy in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born in Canada and played with the Grassroots Canada AAU program before graduating from Pikeville (Kentucky) High School.
