Report: Georgia G Humphrey arrested on weapons charge

Nov 14, 2007 - 5:21 PM ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Georgia junior guard Billy Humphrey is facing a felony weapons charge, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, Humphrey was arrested by University of Georgia police on Tuesday afternoon for possessing a weapon on campus.

Bulldogs coach Dennis Felton told the Journal-Constitution that Humphrey had a pocket knife in his dormitory room with a blade more than two inches in length.

Humphrey turned himself into the Athens-Clarke County Jail on Tuesday night and missed the Bulldogs' practice.

Felton said he was not sure what disciplinary action he would take until gathering more information.

"I don't know enough to make any of my own decisions, so obviously I can't talk about it," he said. "I don't have any idea what I'm going to do. I have a lot of information to gather."

According to university policy, students can be dismissed for felony charges.

Humphrey scored 13 points in Friday's season-opening 107-65 victory over Jacksonville State.

He averaging 7.5 points per game last season, starting the Bulldogs' final 10 contests.
