Western Kentucky suspends freshman C Robinson
Jul 31, 2017 - 5:25 PM Western Kentucky freshman center Mitchell Robinson has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules, the school announced Monday. The 6-foot-11 Robinson left campus Wednesday night without telling anyone at the university after enrolling in summer classes earlier this month, sources told the Bowling Green Daily News.
Robinson went through three practices last week as the Hilltoppers prepared for an Aug. 7-14 trip to Costa Rica, where they will play three games. Coaches were unaware of the McDonald's All-American's absence until he did not report for a workout Thursday.
A source told ESPN that Robinson doesn't want to play at Western Kentucky and that he would be OK transferring or sitting out this year.
Western Kentucky coach Rick Stansbury commented on the absence of his star recruit for the first time Monday.
"WKU freshman center Mitchell Robinson is suspended indefinitely from the program for a violation of team rules," Stansbury said in a statement. "Mitchell is a good kid, but the team will always be more important than one individual player. He needs to understand the value of structure and accountability in his life, and his return will be dependent upon requirements that will be handled internally.
"My focus is on our team, and I'm excited about this group as we prepare for next week's trip to Costa Rica."
Robinson, a New Orleans native, is considered a potential lottery pick in next year's NBA Draft.
