Wake Forest G Williams breaks hand

Jan 24, 2008 - 2:04 AM WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Wake Forest guard L.D. Williams could miss the next three weeks due to a fractured right hand, the school announced on Wednesday.

The team's third-leading scorer at 10.1 points, Williams suffered the injury in the Demon Deacons' 80-75 overtime loss to Clemson on Tuesday. The sophomore was diving for a loose ball with 7:20 remaining in regulation when his hand was inadvertently stepped on by a Tigers' player.

Williams will undergo a minor procedure on Thursday to stabilize the fracture and is expected to return to basketball-related activities in 10 days.

Starting every game in his career with Wake Forest, Williams also ranks third on the team with 4.3 rebounds.

Williams was not the only player to get hurt in the tough loss for the Demon Deacons, as center Chas McFarland also suffered a right knee sprain. The 7-foot sophomore, however, is listed as day-to-day.

McFarland had nine points and a career-high 13 rebounds against Clemson before suffering the injury. He is averaging 7.1 points and 5.5 boards in starting 15 of 18 games this season.
