Clemson G Stitt to miss two weeks

Feb 1, 2008 - 1:23 AM GREENVILLE, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Clemson starting point guard Demontez Stitt will miss the next two weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee, the Greenville News reported on its web site Thursday.

The freshman, who has started all 20 games this season, suffered torn cartilage in practice on Wednesday, according to the report.

"Obviously, this is a big loss for us, but thankfully only for a short period of time," Tigers coach Oliver Purnell told the newspaper.

On the season, Stitt is averaging 8.9 points and 3.1 assists. He also is second on the team in free-throw shooting at 80.8 percent.

Coming off a 75-72 loss at Miami on Sunday, Clemson (15-5) will look for its second win in four Atlantic Coast Conference games when it hosts Boston College on Saturday.

After beginning the season at 12-1, the Tigers are just 3-4 over their last seven games.
