Lawson could miss another game

Feb 12, 2008 - 5:05 PM CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) -- Injuries are starting to take a toll on fifth-ranked North Carolina.

Starting point guard Ty Lawson, who is sidelined with a sprained left ankle, could miss his third straight game Tuesday when the Tar Heels visit Virginia in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest.

North Carolina coach Roy Williams told the Charlotte Observer that he does not have a timetable for Lawson's return.

"We've just got to wait until he starts feeling better with it," Williams said. "The kid's not been hurt very often, and sometimes kids that haven't been hurt think that sometimes things have to be perfect before they come back.

"At the same time, it still hurts. We're just going to have to wait until it stops hurting."

North Carolina's backcourt depth could be severely tested against the Cavaliers, as the status of backup point guard Marcus Ginyard also is uncertain.

Ginyard is battling a sprained right ankle, along with turf toe on his left foot, and will be a game-time decision, according to Williams.

For more than a month, North Carolina has been without reserve guard Bobby Frasor, who suffered a season-ending knee injury on December 27.

Without Lawson, the fifth-ranked Tar Heels (22-2) have split a pair of games. They fell to No. 2 Duke, 88-79, then needed double overtime to get past Clemson, 103-93, on Sunday.

Tyler Hansbrough scored 39 points in 47 minutes against Clemson as the banged-up Tar Heels rallied from a 15-point deficit in the second half to improve to 53-0 at home against the Tigers.
