Duquesne C James has torn shoulder

Mar 4, 2008 - 4:56 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Duquesne center Shawn James has a torn labrum in his right shoulder, the school announced Tuesday.

The Dukes' leading scorer and rebounder, James will see a shoulder specialist Wednesday morning and is listed as doubtful for the team's game that night at Temple.

"Shawn had an MRI done this morning that showed a small tear," Duquesne head coach Ron Everhart said. "Our team physician felt it best that he see a specialist before beginning any kind of rehab, and he'll do that tomorrow.

"He will not be traveling with the team. If it is determined that he can play, there is a possibility we could fly him to Philadelphia tomorrow and have him for limited duty. If not, he'll stay back and begin rehab."

The 6-10 James is averaging 13.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and a team-leading 4.1 blocks this season. The junior was injured midway through the second half of Sunday's 89-82 loss at Charlotte.

Duquesne (16-11, 6-8 Atlantic 10 Conference) has lost its last four games and is still battling for one of the 12 available berths in the conference tournament. The Dukes currently are 10th in the Atlantic 10 standings.
