WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Senior guard Maureece Rice has been dismissed from George Washington for a "failure to adhere to team rules," the Washington Post reported late Thursday.
According to the paper, the school announced the dismissal prior to the Colonials' 77-61 loss to Charlotte in an Atlantic 10 Conference contest on Thursday.
The team's third-leading scorer at 9.2 points, Rice had been suspended two previous times this season according to the report, missing two of George Washington's first 24 games.
The team's top scorer as a junior at 15.8 points and the A-10's Sixth Man of the Year in 2006, Rice considered entering the NBA draft last summer before deciding to return for his final season.
However, Rice was asked to adopt more of a playmaking role this season, but struggled with it. He did have a team-high 60 assists but also committed 37 turnovers.
The Colonials (9-16, 5-10 A-10) are in jeopardy of failing to qualify for the Atlantic 10's postseason tournament, sitting in a tie with Fordham for the 12th and final spot. GW ends the regular season against Massachusetts on Saturday.
