Nebraska signs Sadler to extension

Apr 2, 2008 - 9:57 PM LINCOLN, Nebraska (Ticker) -- Nebraska signed men's basketball coach Doc Sadler to a two-year contract extension Wednesday.

The extension, which runs through 2014, will see Sadler's salary increase from $700,000 to $800,000 each season over the life of the contract.

Sadler was originally hired as Nebraska's head coach in August 2006, agreeing to a six-year contract. He has guided the Cornhuskers to a 37-27 record in two seasons at Nebraska.

Sadler, 47, coached Nebraska to a 20-13 record in 2007-08, helping the Huskers earn a spot in the NIT.

"Doc Sadler has done an exceptional job of motivating and preparing his basketball team this past season," Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne said. "We are very pleased that he has committed to staying at Nebraska for an extended period of time. We believe the future of Nebraska basketball is bright under Doc's leadership."

Sadler's contract also is incentive-based, giving him the opportunity to earn additional income for success in the basketball program, both on and off the court.

"This is where my family and I want to live, and this is where I want to build a championship program," Sadler said. "Even though we've had some success the past two years, we are not at the level where we want to be.

"But I'm happy that people can see my commitment and the progress we are making within the program."

Sadler has a 85-45 record in four total years at the Division I level, including two seasons at UTEP.
