Bassett seeks reinstatement

Apr 6, 2008 - 6:05 PM INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- With a new coach in place, ousted Indiana guard Armon Bassett apparently wants to get back on the team.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Bassett, a sophomore, has contacted Hoosiers coach Tom Crean about the possibility of being reinstated.

Last week, Bassett and fellow guard Jamarcus Ellis were dismissed from the program by interim Indiana coach Dan Dakich.

The Star reported that the two players were kicked off the team for missing an appointment and then not showing up for a 6 a.m. run the following day. The run was punishment for missing the meeting.

Bassett, who missed three games this past season for a violation of team rules, averaged 11.4 points in 29 contests for the Hoosiers.

According to the newspaper, Ellis, a junior, has not spoken to Crean about possible reinstatement.

Crean could lose freshman Eric Gordon, the Hoosiers' leading scorer, who is expected to announce Monday that he is leaving Indiana to enter the NBA draft. Gordon averaged 20.0 points per game.
