Oregon State to name Robinson coach

Apr 7, 2008 - 6:46 PM PORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- Oregon State is expected to name Brown's Craig Robinson as its next men's basketball coach, The Oregonian reported Monday.

Oregon State has not commented on the report. But the school has scheduled a news conference for 7 p.m. EDT to introduce its new coach.

Moving to the Pac-10 Conference would be a significant jump for Robinson, who guided Brown to a second-place finish in the Ivy League this past season behind Cornell.

Robinson will inherit a downtrodden program, as former Oregon State coach Jay John was fired on January 20. The Beavers completed the season under interim coach Kevin Mouton.

Oregon State finished last in the Pac-10, becoming the first team in league history to go 0-18 in conference play.

Robinson is the brother-in-law of Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama.
