Indiana G Gordon enters NBA draft

Apr 7, 2008 - 9:26 PM INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Indiana freshman Eric Gordon, the Hoosiers' leading scorer this season, announced Monday that he will enter this year's NBA draft.

Gordon made the announcement in his hometown of Indianapolis at the same neighborhood center where he grew up playing the game.

"I'm doing this to compete at the highest level," said Gordon, who was joined at a news conference by his family and future agent, Rob Pelinka.

Gordon was named Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 20.9 points per game - a school record for a freshman.

However, he endured a tumultuous second half of the season, playing with what his father described as a broken bone in his non-shooting wrist.

Indiana finished the season under interim coach Dan Dakich, who took over after Kelvin Sampson resigned in February following allegations of recruiting violations. The Hoosiers lost to Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
