Seton Hall keeping Gonzalez as coach

Apr 7, 2008 - 11:05 PM SOUTH ORANGE, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Seton Hall announced Monday that Bobby Gonzalez will remain as coach of the men's basketball team, ending speculation he would be relieved of his duties.

Gonzalez, who guided the Pirates to a 17-15 record in 2007-08, is 30-31 in two seasons at the helm of Seton Hall.

"Bobby Gonzalez is Seton Hall's coach and will continue to be our coach as we move ahead," Seton Hall president Robert Sheeran said. "I can assure you that coach Gonzalez will continue to strengthen our men's basketball program and will be successful in all those areas that matter to the university.

"He has the full support of my administration in doing this."

The 43-year-old, who has a career record of 159-108 over nine seasons at the Division I level, faces a suspension for the first Big East Conference game in the 2008-09 season due to failing to comply with university and Big East policies after a loss last March.

Gonzalez publicly criticized the officiating after a 64-61 setback to Rutgers.
