Ford to remain coach at UMass

Apr 11, 2008 - 3:13 AM AMHERST, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Massachusetts men's basketball coach Travis Ford will remain at his position with the Minutemen, the school announced on Thursday.

This past season, Ford guided the Minutemen to a 25-11 record, which included a run to the National Invitation Tournament championship game, which they lost to Ohio State.

Ford was interviewed by Providence on Wednesday but decided to stay in Amherst.

"I took my time in making the decision, and I have no doubt this is the right one," Ford said. "This is the right place for me. I'm very excited. I'm going to give the team a week off and then we are right back to it."

The 38-year-old coach has a 62-35 record in his three years at Massachusetts.
