Kansas State's Beasley to announce future

Apr 14, 2008 - 5:52 PM MANHATTAN, Kansas (Ticker) -- Michael Beasley will let everyone know if he is either staying or going.

Following a stellar freshman season in which he was a finalist for the Wooden Award, Beasley will announce his future plans in an afternoon press conference Monday.

Expected to be surrounded by Kansas State coach Frank Martin and family and friends, Beasley will declare whether he will make the move to the NBA or return for his sophomore season at 6 p.m. EDT at Bramlage Coliseum.

Widely considered to be among the top two picks in June's NBA draft, Beasley either will accept millions of dollars or remain with the Wildcats to continue being the face of a rising program.

Projected to be one of the nation's top freshman at the start of the season along with O.J. Mayo and Kevin Love, Beasley did not disappoint, finishing first in the nation in rebounding (12.4 rpg) and third in scoring (26.2 ppg).

Named the Big 12 Player of the Year, Beasley set the NCAA record for most double-doubles (28) by a freshman and established school and conference all-time single-season marks for scoring average.

In all, the 6-10 forward ended up setting 30 school records in leading Kansas State to a 21-12 record and its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 12 years.

While his accomplishments scream that he is ready to move on to the next level, Beasley may decide to stay in school seeing how he is just 19 years old.

However, passing up a chance to be the top pick in the NBA draft may be too big an attraction for Beasley, who had hinted during his freshman campaign that he really enjoyed the life of a college basketball player.
