MANHATTAN, Kansas (Ticker) -- After guiding Kansas State to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 12 years, coach Frank Martin signed a five-year contract with the Wildcats on Wednesday.
The deal, which will have a base salary of $180,000, will run through the 2011-12 season.
"This is a day of great pride and joy for me and my family," Martin said. "It is great to share this day with the wonderful people of K-State."
Kansas State went 21-12 in Martin's first year, which included a first-round victory over Southern California in the NCAAs. It was the school's first berth in the NCAAs since 1996 and its first tournament win since 1988.
"Frank and his staff have done a tremendous job of elevating our men's basketball program into one of the best in both the Big 12 and in the nation," Wildcats vice president Bob Krause said. "We have great confidence in his ability to guide our basketball program and look forward to a long and prosperous relationship."
Duplicating the same success next season will be a little more difficult for Martin, who will be without Michael Beasley after the freshman declared for the NBA draft on Monday.
Beasley averaged 26.2 points and 12.4 rebounds, posting one of the best freshman seasons in college basketball this season.
The 42-year-old coach was an assistant for the Wildcats during the 2006-07 season and served as an assistant for Cincinnati and Northeastern prior to joining Kansas State.
