Kansas' Rush, Arthur enter NBA draft

Apr 17, 2008 - 10:30 PM LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- Brandon Rush and Darrell Arthur have a college championship. Now, they will see just how much NBA money they can get.

Kansas guard Rush and forward Arthur both declared for the NBA draft at an on-campus press conference on Thursday.

Both Rush and Arthur were starters on the Jayhawks' national championship squad that rallied against Memphis earlier this month, giving the school its first title since 1988.

"Today is a great day for Kansas basketball," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "I'm excited for the opportunities that will present itself for these two young men who have given so much to the program."

Rush will be passing up on his final year of eligibility after also entering the draft last year. The junior guard returned to school last season after tearing his ACL in his right knee last May in a pickup game.

An All-Big 12 first-team selection each of the past three seasons, Rush led the Jayhawks in scoring for a third straight time this season with 13.3 points.

"I have learned so much at Kansas," Rush said. "It has taught me to be a better man and a mature man. I just want to thank all the fans and coaches for their support. I'm always going to be a proud Jayhawk."

The 6-6 Rush is the younger brother of the Indiana Pacers' Kareem Rush.

The sophomore Arthur finished tied for second in scoring with 12.8 points and placed second in rebounds with 6.3 boards. He also led the team with 53 blocks.

"It has been a remarkable two years for me," Arthur said. "I appreciate the love I have received here ever since I stepped on campus. I'm declaring for the NBA draft without an agent. I just want to thank the coaches, my mom and my family for all of their support."

The 6-9 Arthur said he will not sign with an agent, enabling him to return to school if he withdraws by June 16. The NBA draft will take place on June 26.
