Texas G Augustin declares for draft

Apr 23, 2008 - 8:46 PM AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Texas guard D.J. Augustin declared for the NBA draft on Wednesday but will not hire an agent, allowing the option to return to school.

The 6-foot sophomore averaged 19.2 points and a Big 12 Conference-best 5.8 assists, leading the Longhorns to a 31-7 record and an appearance in the Elite Eight.

"I have had a great experience here at the University of Texas," Augustin said. "I have matured a lot as a person, both on and off the court. I have dreamed of playing in the NBA since I was a little boy, and I am ready to start living this dream."

Augustin averaged 14.4 points and 6.7 assists during his freshman season, helping the Kevin Durant-led Longhorns into the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Along with Augustin, Texas guard A.J. Abrams also declared for the draft Wednesday, and he did not hire an agent either.
