VCU's Grant signs extension
Apr 24, 2008 - 11:08 PM RICHMOND, Virginia (Ticker) -- Virginia Commonwealth basketball coach Anthony Grant, who has guided the Rams to 52 wins in his two seasons, on Thursday agreed in principle to a contract extension.Financial terms were not disclosed for the deal that will keep Grant under contract at VCU through the 2013-14 season.
"My family and I are extremely grateful for the confidence and commitment shown to us," Grant said. "I am excited, honored and privileged to be a part of the present and future of VCU and the city of Richmond."
In his two seasons, Grant has guided VCU to a 31-5 league record in the Colonial Athletic Association - the best of any team in the conference during that span.
In 2007, VCU upset Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before losing in the next round to Pittsburgh in overtime.
This past season, the Rams played in the National Invitation Tournament and finished with a 24-8 record.
"I am thrilled that we are extending Anthony's contract," VCU director of athletics Norwood Teague said. "His impact on our basketball program has been outstanding. It is our intention for coach Grant to serve as our head coach for many years."
