Hansbrough transfers to Notre Dame

Apr 29, 2008 - 8:23 PM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Former Mississippi State guard Ben Hansbrough will transfer to Notre Dame, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.

According to the Tribune, Hansbrough made the decision after a weekend visit to the Notre Dame campus. He is the younger brother of North Carolina forward Tyler Hansbrough.

While NCAA transfer rules require Hansbrough to sit out next season, he is eager to become a part of Notre Dame coach Mike Brey's up-tempo offense.

"I'm another guard," Hansbrough told the Tribune. "I can do a lot of different things. I had a high school coach that liked to push it up and down the floor, so I think I can fit right in."

Last season, Hansbrough was Mississippi State's fourth-leading scorer, averaging 10.5 points per game. He started 28 contests for the Bulldogs (23-11), who lost to Memphis, 77-74, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

A sophomore, Hansbrough will have two years of eligibility left starting with the 2009-10 season.
