Former Oklahoma State player, coach Aubrey dies

May 6, 2008 - 9:12 PM STILLWATER, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Sam Aubrey, a member of the 1946 national championship Oklahoma State team and a former coach of the Cowboys, passed away, the school announced on Tuesday. He was 85.

Aubrey died Monday afternoon in his home in Stillwater.

After having his time with the school interrupted by service with the United States Army for World War II that included a Silver Star, Landry was a starting forward on the 1945-46 squad that went 31-2 en route to a second straight NCAA crown.

After graduation, Landry went on to coach in high school and junior college before becoming the freshman coach for Oklahoma State in 1953. He served in that role for 10 years, going 62-18, before becoming an assistant for the varsity team in 1964.

Landry later became the coach for the Cowboys for three seasons in 1970 after Henry Iba retired, going 18-60. He remained in the athletic department in various administrative roles until retiring in 1983.
