Georgetown's Rivers to transfer

May 7, 2008 - 11:23 PM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Georgetown sophomore guard Jeremiah Rivers, the son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, will transfer, the school announced Wednesday.

Rivers is the second Georgetown player to transfer in the last two weeks, joining sophomore forward Vernon Macklin.

Rivers averaged just 2.5 points last season but was regarded as the Hoyas' top defensive guard.

"Jeremiah and his family made a decision and determined this was best for him," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said in a statement released by the school. "We appreciate his hard work and wish him best in his future endeavors."
