CHARLESTON, West Virginia (Ticker) -- West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins banged his head after getting off a plane in Charlotte, North Carolina on Thursday afternoon and was taken to an area hospital, the Charleston Daily Mail reported.

West Virginia director of athletics Ed Pastilong told the Daily Mail that Huggins was transported to a Charlotte area hospital for "precautionary reasons."

Pastilong released a statement, saying that Huggings, 54, was walking away from the plane and checking voicemail on his cell phone when he tripped over a cone.

"He's down there with the alumni to meet the Charlotte alumni group and as he was getting off the plane, he tripped and bumped his head," Pastilong told the newspaper.

Pastilong said that Huggins did not suffer a serious injury, and the trip to the hospital was routine.

Haley Gentry, public affairs manager for Charlotte International Airport, told the newspaper that Huggins "apparently became dizzy and required medical attention."

Last week, Huggins signed a 10-year extension that will keep under contract at his alma mater through his 65th birthday.

In 2002, Huggins had a massive heart attack at the Pittsburgh airport and had to be shocked back to life.
