WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- University of Kansas' reigning national championship basketball team toured the White House on Tuesday morning before meeting with President George W. Bush.

The Jayhawks met Bush nearly two months after winning the third national title in school history and their first in 20 years.

Kansas posted a 75-68 overtime victory over Memphis on April 7, rallying from a nine-point deficit late in regulation to stun the Tigers in one of the most memorable NCAA Tournament championship games in history.

"I want to congratulate this team," Bush said. "You've brought new glory to one of our nation's most storied basketball programs. And you gave your fans all across America one more reason to chant Rock Chalk Jayhawk."

The Jayhawks visited with Bush during a ceremony at the Rose Garden, where approximately 300 Kansas fans were in attendance.

"I know you guys are excited about winning an incredibly tough tournament," Bush said. "Your fans are excited and I am excited to invite you to the Rose Garden. It's a big deal, as far as I am concerned, to welcome KU to the Rose Garden."

Coaches, players and family members also toured the Oval Office with Bush before signing autographs for fans at the White House's East Garden.

Prior to returning to Lawrence, the Jayhawks also visited the Supreme Court and the U.S. Senate office buildings.
