CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson was arrested early Friday morning for driving while intoxicated.

Lawson was pulled over by Chapel Hill police around 2:30 a.m. local time downtown due to loud music coming from the vehicle. Due to the smell of alcohol, the officer conducted a field sobriety test that led to the point guard being arrested.

The 20-year-old Lawson was also charged with driving with a revoked license and violating the city's noise ordinance.

One of three Tar Heels to apply for early entry into the NBA, Lawson has been released and is schedule to appear in court on July 8.

Choosing to not hire an agent, Lawson could return to school if he drops his name out of the draft by June 16.

As a sophomore, Lawson helped North Carolina reach the Final Four this past season, averaging 12.7 points and a team-leading 5.2 assists.
