PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Coming of its first winning season in more than a decade, Duquesne on Wednesday signed men's basketball coach Ron Everhart to a multi-year extension that keeps him under contract at the school through the 2013-14 season.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Last season, the Dukes got off to their best start in 27 years en route to a 17-13 record, their best season since 1993-94. They did falter a bit down the stretch, losing six of their last seven games.

"Duquesne is a very special place," said Everhart, who has turned around the program in just two seasons as coach. "It really is an honor to receive an extension. I am fortunate to be part of a program that has such a strong commitment to basketball excellence."

Everhart was named Duquense coach on March 29, 2006, inheriting a team that was coming a 3-24 season, the worst in school history.

His first year got off to a trying start as five players were injured in a preseason shooting. The Dukes still managed to win seven more games than the previous season, going 10-19 and qualifying for the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament.

"Ron Everhart has done an outstanding job in elevating our men's basketball program," Duquesne director of athletics Greg Amodio said. "He has accomplished a great deal in two short years. Ron has shown tremendous leadership, an unparalleled work ethic and a commitment to making Duquesne a winner."

Everhart installed a high-tempo offense, as the Dukes averaged 82.3 points per game last season, the seventh-best mark in Division I.
